SAN FRANCISCO, California – July 29, 2014 – On the eve of the much-anticipated July 30th world premiere of Sharknado 2: The Second One, Watchwith announced their collaboration with Syfy and Philips to enable the first ever television content-focused immersive lighting experience, pairing the Syfy Sync app with the Philips Hue connected lighting system for the home. Syfy and Philips Hue turned to Watchwith’s unique software platform to create, schedule and deliver perfectly-timed Philips Hue lighting events that add drama and excitement to the television broadcasts of both Sharknado and Sharknado 2: The Second One.

Fans who pair the Syfy Sync app for iPhone and iPad with their Philips Hue web-enabled LED home lighting systems while watching Sharknado and Sharknado 2: The Second One on Wednesday, July 30 (7PM and 9PM EST, respectively) will be treated to a specially designed “light track” – a visual soundtrack – that adds a heightened layer to the movie-watching experience in addition to the enhanced interactive and social experience provided by Syfy Sync.

Syfy producers utilized the Watchwith Showrunner™ tools to create cues that the Syfy Sync app sends to the web-enabled Hue system to synchronize the immersive lighting experience while watching Sharknado and Sharknado 2: The Second One. Fans will be enveloped in the onscreen action through ambient lighting effects as the bulbs change colors to reflect the increasingly stormy weather conditions, chainsaw-induced shark carnage and more throughout the two movies.

In making the announcement, Matthew Chiavelli, Vice President, Digital Media & Strategy, said: “With a fan base that’s always looking for new ways to interact with our content, we’re happy to give them an innovative way take it to the next level. Syfy Sync has always been a multiplatform play, and now the action makes the leap from the television and second screen to an even more immersive Sharknado viewing experience with Philips Hue.”

“Syfy tells great stories using the most cutting edge technology available and this ground breaking TV first is no exception,” said Watchwith CEO, Zane Vella. “Watchwith has been the Syfy Sync platform for years, and we appreciate being their partner in this next innovation.”
